Anastasia Chyz-LeSage, Director, Settlement and Resettlement Operations, IRCC was Keynote Speaker at Fall 2025 Graduation - LINC- Literacy to CLB 8, New Directions English Language School, accompanied by community partners representing The Rotary Club, The Township of Langley, Encompass Support Society and FVRL.
An excerpt from Anastasia Chyz-LeSage's Keynote Address:
"As newcomers to Canada, learning about indigenous history is essential to understanding the full story of this country. Canada’s history began long before Confederation - with the First Peoples who have lived and cared for this land since time immemorial.
The LINC program is not just about learning English – it’s about deepening your understanding of the society you’re now part of. That includes learning about colonization, the legacy of residential schools, and the importance of reconciliation.
In many ways, the newcomer experience echoes aspects of Indigenous experience: languages lost, lives disrupted, and families left behind. These shared threads of resilience and rebuilding remind us of the importance of healing, respect, and connection.
You, LINC graduates, are part of that story. You bring vibrancy to our neighbourhoods, energy to our economy, and care for our shared future."

Constable Talbot McNutt and Constable Dennis Bell:
We would like to express our sincerest gratitude to you for taking the time to attend both the New Directions Morning and Evening Graduation Ceremonies yesterday.
Thank you so much for arriving in Red Serge, the ceremonial dress uniform of the RCMP, to further demonstrate the high value placed on the Newcomers Graduation Ceremony.
Your presence was truly impressive—especially during the singing of O Canada—and we’re so grateful for the cherished photo opportunities you shared with our students. Those moments will surely add to their wonderful memories of graduation.
Your continued support and contributions to the New Directions students have made a significant impact on our newcomers as they work to build their new lives in Canada. We truly appreciate your dedication and commitment to helping them succeed.
